I thought about putting Lanzini in my list but decided that whilst whatever the formation I would find room for Payet in some formations I don't think I would always go for both.

Particularly if Payet was played in the middle rather than out wide on the left ( where Bilic seems to prefer him)

For the record I think Lanzini is a very good player (better than some on the list) but not necessary one to always start.

We don't know whether Za Za is going to cut iit yet.

Like your 1st xi Stubbo. Interestingly though, only 1 player in that xi, has come in this summer. All our other additions have strengthened the depth of squad, rather than the 1st xi.

Agree with you Hammers. Whilst not necessarily our second best player (Antonio is that player for me in terms of impact), Lanzini is a key cog that we don't really have a replacement for.

He's the glue between us having the ball in deep midfield and transitioning to attack. In that respect he's almost more important to how fluidly the team plays than Payet is (although without so much obvious end product).

What is noticeable though is with him not in the team, our ability to retain ball possession as we move up the pitch, find space and time on the ball, and make fluid passing moves is greatly reduced. We can still be effective without him, but we are a different side.

Wasn't meant as a dig, just think Lanzini is our 2nd best player and can't understand how he doesn't make everyone's starting 11.

Like you said, opinions eh.

Re: Strongest starting 11 when everyone is fit?
2 solid XIs now:

---------------------Adrian----------------------------

--Byram----Collins----Ogbonna----Cresswell--

-----------------Kouyate--Noble----------------

--Antonio----------------------------------Payet----

-----------------------Lanzini---------------------------

-----------------------Zaza----------------------------

and

---------------------Randolph----------------------------

--Arbeloa----Oxford----Reid----Masuaku--

-----------------Nordveidt--Obiang----------------

--Feghouli----------------------------------Tore----

-----------------------Ayew---------------------------

-----------------------Carroll----------------------------

and that's before we throw Fernandes, Fletcher, Calleri, Sakho into the mix.

Personally, I'd say full marks to the board for getting us to a place where we have a squad that is about more than the strongest XI and some 'do a job' merchants. There is now a lot of interchangeable talent that you wouldn't say would fundamentally weaken us in anyway if players came in and out.

The only truly irreplaceable player for me remains Payet, but then you can't hope to have two world class attacking midfielders in a midtable side.

Re: Strongest starting 11 when everyone is fit?

Seriously how do you not include Lanzini in your first 11, he is the 2nd name on the team sheet surely?

Because I'm allowed to have my own opinion on who should be in my first 11.
It will change tomorrow I'm sure.

yeah I love Lanzini
natural ability to travel away from goal with the ball, the lad is going to be huge and very hot property

Re: Strongest starting 11 when everyone is fit?
2nd team looks very strong too, for the cup games (shame we are out of Europe).

------------------ Randolph -------------------
Arbeloa -- Collins -- Oxford -- Masuaku
------------- Nordtveit -- Obiang ------------
-------------------- Lanzini ---------------------
--- Feghouli ----- Carroll ------ Tore ------

Looks pretty decent for a 2nd team with players like Calleri, Fletcher fighting for a place too.

Seeing our possible lineups, last Thursday still frustrates me.

We should take some decent runs at Cups, I expect.

The idea of everyone being fit at West Ham Overtrained Olympic is also a far fetched idea. Never going to happen!

Agree that Masuaka seems to be the real deal.... his debut at Chelsea was superb... I reckon Cresswell will struggle to get back in the team.

Re: Strongest starting 11 when everyone is fit?
I can't see anyone picking the Norwegian(and I don't mean Samuelsen) in their best eleven, yet he was going to be the answer for the DM position when he arrived. Perhaps it's because he's pretty shit I suppose.

Reference Arthur, I too have been pleasantly surprised how good the bloke is. When Cresswell is fit,I have a feeling he could switch to centre back when needed. He looks very solid in defence and is good in the air. I have great hopes for this lad.
